Douglas Electrical Components, a US manufacturer of hermetic electrical feedthroughs, has expanded its UL1203 Class I Division 1 explosion-proof rated feedthrough line to include “cUL” approval. The added certification within the Douglas Electrical UL file confirms the the various product families approved within the file meet the Canadian Electrical Code standards for explosion-proof rated environments.

Two popular product series within the file are the 52240 and 52539 series wire bushings. The 52240 series wire bushing is available in two main configurations: male-to-male and male-to-female threads; the 52539 series is designed in a female-to-female configuration similar to many poured seal housings on the market.

Douglas Electrical Components manufactures UL1203 Class I Division 1 Explosion-proof NPT feedthrough bushings for hazardous locations. Our standard NPT wire bushings are pre-wired epoxy feedthroughs. This eliminates the need for pouring cement or epoxy in the field, ensures a factory-tested seal, and saves time in the field or factory. With a Douglas Electrical wire bushing, designs are available to combine different types of electrical connections on either end of the fitting. For example, a jacketed cable rated for outdoor use or submersion can be combined with simple wire conductors on either end. This can save money and increase life when connecting instrumentation where only one side of the fitting is exposed to outdoor conditions or submersion.

These feedthroughs are commonly designed into oil and gas applications including wellhead monitoring systems, gas analyzers, compressors, and other instrumentation and controls.

Standard features include:

NPT Feedthroughs

  • Housing sizes (NPT): ½”, ¾”, 1”
  • Standard housing materials: Stainless steel, brass, aluminum
  • Single or dual threaded ends
  • Various wire types including PTFE and PVC
  • Gauges: 3/0 to 24 AWG (hub size and wire count dependent)
  • Wire count: 1 to 52 (hub size and wire gauge dependent)

Douglas is also capable of manufacturing hermetic feedthroughs and wire bushings to other international standards including ATEX and IECEx. Contact our engineers with your design project; we can help configure and design a hermetic wire bushing to meet the standards and create a plug-and-play assembly.
