Pioneered by Douglas Electrical Components, Portplate systems are fully assembled and pre-tested multi-port, custom hermetic feedthrough systems for pressure and vacuum applications. Customize the mechanical interface and mix and match electrical connection types to create a single, hermetic assembly. Portplates can be provided with or without hermetically sealed connectors and are shipped as ready-to-install assemblies.
Portplates are available in various mechanical interfaces to match your geometric and sealing requirements for both power and signal applications operating under vacuum and positive pressures. Whether we utilize our in-house machining or partner for customer-supplied components, Douglas Electrical will work to build a cost-effective, hermetic system that reduces cost and leak paths with a single plate.
The bulkhead interface can be a variety of fittings including flanges, threaded adapters, and O-ring assemblies. Multiple feedthroughs on a single plate can minimize time and costs associated with troubleshooting and testing. Portplate assemblies are available in sizes ranging from 6 to 48 inches in diameter and offer full strain relief. We also offer vacuum outgassing bake-out for components or entire units.
Accommodate any configuration.
Portplates are available to accommodate mixed configurations of feedthroughs including Ductorseal® hermetic wire feedthroughs, StudSeal™ high power feedthroughs, Optiseal™ fiber optic cables, and PotCon® bulkhead connector feedthroughs.

FAQ
What are the clearance requirements for Portplate designs?
PotCon connectors require a 2” minimum clearance around the housing for hand access to tighten or loosen connector locking rings. ace seal housings for harness feedthroughs (jam nut mounting) require a 1″ minimum clearance for wrench access to make up the jam nut. Face mount housings require only a 1/2″ clearance around the housing OD for the clamps (be sure to stagger the clamps of adjoining housings).
Can I customize a Portplate?
Yes. Douglas Electrical Components will partner with you during the design process to specific the cables and connectors required to optimize the design. While our products are customized, our lead times are also very competitive with other customized assemblies as well as some standard products by utilizing LEAN manufacturing and maintaining in-house capabilities such as machining.
What feedthrough materials are available?
While aluminum and stainless steel are the most common materials for Portplates, we design and manufacture with dielectric materials such as G10 Garolite.
Are Portplates used in applications other than vacuum chambers?
Yes. While this product line is popular in vacuum chamber and semiconductor manufacturing applications, it is also used in various industrial and OEM applications such as compressor power feedthroughs. Portplates are simply a way to easily mount a hermetic electrical feedthrough.
Do Portplates survive cryogenic temperatures?
Yes, our electrical feedthrough will operate at 4K (LHe). Our unique manufacturing and material combination enable us to combat mismatches in material expansion, commonly measured as the coefficient of thermal expansion, or CTE.
